1841 Mississippi Manufactured by Tyron Rare NJ Marked
Description: George Tryon of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania manufactured 1841 "Mississippi Rifle". One of 5000 made between 1846 - 1848. Musket barrel with blade front sight, and rear graduated sight. "JCB", "P", smaller P, and with 1848 date on tang. Barrel also marked with "N.J." on left rear flat. Lock marked "Tryon US" in front of hammer and "Philada PA 1848" behind hammer. Walnut wood stock with brass furniture. Stock has both cartouches behind sideplate towards buttstock. Brass buttplate has "US" mark on top. .54 caliber with original ramrod and extra nipple in patch box. 33" barrel exhibits some nice original brown underneath a scattered coat of thin shellac applied many years ago. Action functions as it should. Wood shows normal handling marks, scratches, and scrapes. The usual tiny crack is present from rear lock plate bolt to receiver (see pics).
