1841 Mississippi Rifle Drake Alteration 51 Mass. stamped on buttplate. Very Good
Description:
on hold .. Lockplate dated 1851 Robbins & Lawrence US and is nice. This is the drake alteration for the state of Mass. The rear sight is rare in itself as made without the dovetail at rear and same as a Lindner conversion. Still in .54 as all for Mass. are. Bore has rifling and is very dark. The proofs are visible on barrel but date is missing as there is pitting around the nipple.. Metal is a dark patina and brass has been polished and the Markings on the buttpate are good at top but not as sharp on bottom. Brass is bright and has some dings making the 51 Mass harder to read. The wood has chipping around the buttplate as I think it was on a rack or something to make it chip. Missing ramrod and mechanics are fine. Email or call if more information is needed. This rifle can be traced to the soldier who carried it. Free UPS ground shipping. More photos coming.
Added: There is a sliver out at the tang and wood is split behind the bolster easy fix.
No cartouches and never had any as it's a state issued rifle.
