1852 Civil War WHITNEY MISSISSIPPI Rifle-Musket
U.S. Contract Model 1841 MUSKET w Special Saber Bayonet!
Description: 1852 Civil War WHITNEY MISSISSIPPI Rifle-Musket U.S. Contract Model 1841 MUSKET w Special Saber Bayonet! Here we present an antique U.S. Model 1841 Rifle-Musket, made on contract by Eli Whitney’s Whitneyville or Whitney Arms Co. in New Haven, Connecticut in 1852. Only 26,500 were produced by Whitney. The Mississippi Rifle is so called because its service life included the Mexican-American War, during which Jefferson Davis (future president of the Confederacy) led his Mississippi troops, who carried and favored the rifle. It was a rugged and reliable weapon. The Model 1841 was originally made in .54 caliber, but in the late 1850s a number were arsenal reconfigured to a larger caliber. Here is a true survivor in its original .54 caliber. This rifle was used by both sides during the American Civil War. Government arsenals that were in the Confederacy at the time of the rebellion had a number of these in them. This one has been altered by the armory to accept a special saber bayonet, a very scarce and desirable feature. Inspectors markings are clear on the barrel and are a bit faint on the stock. Faint block letter inscription just visible on the left side of the butt stock. Nice old leather sling a nice addition but later than the period of use. The overall condition is very good. The original brown finish on the iron parts has weathered the years nicely. The markings are clear. The walnut stock is in good condition, showing honest use from the period. The bore is in fine condition, bright with sharp rifling. The action is excellent. The bayonet is in very good or better condition. The leather sling is fine. This is a fantastic example of one of the US’s most attractive muskets with all the accessories you would want for it. A great example of a Civil War rifle-musket if ever there was one! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 33 inches. Caliber: .54 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $3950 #190032 SOLD Antique: Yes |
