1863/1863 Bridesburg Rifled Musket by Alfred Jenks & Son
Description: The lockplate is marked U.S. above Bridesburg and an eagle forward of the hammer and 1863 to the rear of the hammer. The metal on the rifle matches for the most part, except for the lockplate and buttplate, which exhibit more patina than the rest of the gun, and the area of the top of the barrel around the bolster, and the bolster itself, that shows pitting from firing. Otherwise, the pitting on the other parts is minor, given the age and use of the rifle. The barrel is marked V over P over an eagle on the bevel and 1863 on the flat. There is a faintly visible cartouche on the left flat of the stock, along with a stamped PSS, meaning unknown. There are also two faint cartouches on the bottom of the stock, in front of the trigger guard. The rifling is highly visible at the muzzle and the barrel gauges .583", only three thousandths of an inch overbore. Remarkable, to say the least. All barrel bands are marked with a U and a smaller E and are consistent in finish. The wood has been refinished at some point, but is not heavily sanded, if at all, and generally quite good, except for some minimal useage scratches on the left flat of the stock, as shown in the photos. That said, the photos tell the story of this rifled CW weapon and should be reviewed. Buyer pays shipping and insurance. USPS money orders or Cashier's check only, please. There is a three day inspection and return period, beginning on the day the rifle is delivered to buyer by the carrier, provided that it is returned unfired and not disassembled in the exact same condition it was shipped to the buyer in, with all parts intact and none swapped out. No FFL required for this antique weapon. Thanks for looking.
