32763- CIVIL WAR CSA ALTERED SPRINGFIELD U.S. 1842 PERCUSSION .69 CAL. MUSKETOON. 26 ½” smoothbore barrel. Lock stamped “SPRING/FIELD/1845” and “EAGLE/US”. Type of alteration carried out by the Richmond Armory during the war. Absolutely original except the ramrod which is a correct reproduction. Metal with the original dark grey patina and stock with the original finish and nice Ordnance inspector’s cartouches un the side panel. Working order. Large numbers of these carried by Confederate Cavalry and Partisan Rangers during the war. From an old Southern Maryland collection. $950.
