Confederate soldier H.M. McDonald 35th N.C. engraved on opposite side of lock. And his name engraved on the shoulder stock. He was confined in 1864 Point Lookout, MD and was listed POW 6/17/1864 near Petersburg, VA. Then transferred 7/27/1864 Elmira, NY. He was promoted Corpl 3/1/1863. Hugh M. McDonald was from Harnett County NC, a 20-year-old Farmer. Rifle is in great condition, and lock is stamped E. WHITNEY
