Austrian Lorenz Rifle all matching .54 Cal
Description: This is a 100% complete and correct Austrian M-1854 Lorenz Rifle Musket, in fine as issued condition. The barrel is clean and smooth with an attractive light brown and gunmetal gray tone. The gun has a bright bore with very fine rifling in the original Austrian .547 caliber. The top of the breech is marked with the manufacturer’s name “G. SCHLAGER” and the barrel breech and bolster are perfectly smooth and clean with no pitting . The nipple is fine and clear and the gun retains its original helical front sight / bayonet lug at the muzzle and the flip-up sight at the breech. The lock is in very clean condition marked with a clear small Austrian double eagle stamp behind the hammer, and desirable “861” to the front, indicating that it was produced in 1861. The lock works perfectly on both safety and full cock. All the iron parts are clean smooth gunmetal gray color steel and there is no pitting or roughness on the metal. All the metal parts have matching assembly number 3 stamped on them. The gun retains its original sling swivels, bands, band springs, butt plate, trigger assembly, sideplate, and fine screws. The original brass-tipped Austrian ramrod in the channel under the barrel is full-length and complete with threads at the end. The stock is also in very nice condition, with a wonderful light orange-brown color to the beech wood. The edges are still fairly sharp and the ramrod channel is perfect. There are a few scattered dings and light handling wear overall as to be expected with a firearm of this age and there are two period initials carved into the cheeck piece. Lorenz stocks are usually found with surface drying cracks and this one also shows tight drying cracks on the bottom of the forearm and at the bottom of the butt stock as shown in the photo. These are minor and only mentioned for accuracy sake as they are due to the natural long term aging of the beech wood and do not affect the structual soundness of the stock. There is a .54 Cal tompion in the muzzle of the barrel. This is a much better than average condition example of a Lorenz that does not need any attention, restoration, or repairs. The price of the rifle includes the fine original Lorenz bayonet in its excellent and scarce U.S. made leather scabbard. The condition matches that of the rifle and fits the rifle perfectly.
