BRILLIANT CIVIL WAR SPRINGFIELD U.S. MODEL 1863 TYPE II PERCUSSION .58CAL RIFLE MUSKET DATED 1864.
Description: BRILLIANT CIVIL WAR SPRINGFIELD U.S. MODEL 1863 TYPE II PERCUSSION .58CAL RIFLE MUSKET DATED 1864. Prime example with period of use nickel plating possibly for special use(Naval or Guard Unit). Unturned screws and crisp markings. 1864 dated lockplate and barrel. Barrel also with 'V/P" and eaglehead as well as "A". Buttplate with "US" and unit markings over "PC". Crisp "J.C" inspector's stamp behind triggerguard in wood. Crisp cartouches struck on left stock opposite lockplate. Standard front sight/lug and three leaf rear. Excellent bore and rifling. Interesting in the fact that all parts have been expertly nickel plated with almost all remaining(everything but the ramrod). Perfect inletting of stock at all areas of metal to wood. Almost as if this were some sort of Special purpose rifle musket similar in construction to Colt's special muskets at the time. The wood is absolutely untouched with all the original stock finish and crisp edges as well. With further research one might find out who these were issued to or upgraded for(Nat. Guard unit, parade use, etc….). Not your typical 1863 that has been refinished but a crisp prime example with NO signs of buffing, sanding with crisp markings and almost unissued condition. Correct near mint example of U.S. stamped socket bayonet fits like a glove with crisp edges as well. SOLD Antique: Yes |
