CIVIL WAR Antique OVERBAUGH & STANTON Percussion HOMESTEAD/HUNTING Rifle
Back Action GAME GETTING Rifle w/SET TRIGGER
Description: CIVIL WAR Antique OVERBAUGH & STANTON Percussion HOMESTEAD/HUNTING Rifle Back Action GAME GETTING Rifle w/SET TRIGGER Here we present an antique Overbaugh & Stanton Percussion Rifle made circa 1862-64. Overbaugh & Stanton were gunmakers working out of Poughkeepsie, New York between 1862 and 1864 during the American Civil War. The percussion rifle was a type of rifle that utilized the percussion lock mechanism to fire a bullet or musket ball. The Percussion lock mechanism was an evolution of the flintlock mechanism used on earlier muskets and rifles, with the percussion rifle being introduced somewhere around 1820. The percussion rifle had a slight advantage when it came to rate of fire over its flintlock counterparts. The use of a percussion cap reduced the reloading time, meaning the average number of shots per minute would consistently fall between three and four per minute. The percussion lock was also very reliable in wet conditions, and the reverse is true for the flintlocks with the primer not being affected by having water in contact with it, while the powder was virtually incapable of being exposed to water. The overall condition is good. This example is refinished. Smooth, even brown barrel patina. Strong action. The set trigger fully functions. Markings are legible. Solid stock, great shape with little handling wear. Bright, strongly rifled bore. The rear peep is a nice feature. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 30 inches. Caliber: .45 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1650 #254034 SOLD Antique: Yes |
