CIVIL WAR Antique SPRINGFIELD US M1863 Musket
Description: CIVIL WAR Antique SPRINGFIELD US M1863 Musket A Functional Tool for those Headed West Here we present an antique U.S. Model 1863 Musket, made by Springfield Armory in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1864. The M1863 is representative of the “everyman’s” rifle during the American Civil War. About 1.5 million rifle-muskets were made in the U.S., over 800,000 of which were made by the Springfield Armory. This was the last hurrah of the rifle-musket as arms development and tactics rapidly advanced during the short period of the American Civil War. Nevertheless, the 1863 represented new technology as it was made for use with the Minié ball, a hollow based, conical projectile that was small enough to quickly push down the muzzle of a rifled barrel and expanded to create a good gas seal unlike solid, round ball. This specimen was sold on the surplus market after the Civil War. The bore was made smooth and the stock shortened so that this musket could be used as a shotgun. These would have made very inexpensive weapons and hunting implements for those traveling West to seek their fortunes as many thousands were sold in this manner. The original markings on the lock as well as the government inspector marks remain clear .The rear of the lock is dated “1864”. The lock is marked “EAGLE/U.S./SPRINGFIELD”. The overall condition is good. The steel surfaces are weathered and have a mixed gray patina. The markings are clear. The stock shows use and handling. The bore is dark with somewhat rough surfaces. The action is excellent. This would make a nice piece to hang in the hunting cabin or above the mantle! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 33 inches. Caliber: .62 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $565 #8105 SOLD Antique: Yes |
