Here we present an antique US Model 1841 Percussion Musket, shortened to musketoon length. The Model 1841 was one of the United States’ most attractive rifled muskets with a shorter overall length, large brass patchbox, and other hardware. It has been called the “Mississippi rifle” by some, owning to the fact that during the Mexican-American War the Mississippi Volunteer Rifles, along with then-Colonel Jefferson Davis, preferred the weapon. This one was shortened, with the barrel bored to the more commonly used .58 caliber, and the sights replaced long ago—something that might have been done in the Southern states during the war.

The overall condition is good. Original barrel finish. The lock has been replaced. The action is strong, but the trigger must be manually reset due to a weak trigger return spring. The bore is dark with very worn rifling.
