CIVIL WAR M1863 RIFLE-MUSKET with BRIDESBURG Lock
Description: CIVIL WAR M1863 RIFLE-MUSKET with BRIDESBURG Lock Alfred Jenks & Son Dated “1864” Here we present an antique U.S. Model 1863 Rifle-Musket with Brideburg Lock, manufactured circa 1864 in Bridesburg, Pennsylvania. The M1863 is representative of the “everyman’s” rifle during the American Civil War. About 1.5 million rifle-muskets were made in the U.S., over 800,000 of which were made by the Springfield Armory. This was the last hurrah of the rifle-musket as arms development and tactics rapidly advanced during the short period of the American Civil War. Nevertheless, this rifle musket represented new technology as it was made for use with the Minié ball, a hollow based, conical projectile that was small enough to quickly push down the muzzle of a rifled barrel and expanded to create a good gas seal unlike solid, round ball. Alfred Jenks and his son Barton were the subcontractors producing this musket out of the Bridesburg Machine Works of Pennsylvania for the US Government. In 1863, the Jenks family built a new facility for the sole purpose of producing the arms for the war effort. This is an example of the Model 1863 Type I. It bears a lock from the Alfred Jenks & Son contract that is dated “1864”. The lock reads “U.S. BRIDESBURG”. Proof marks are located on the left side of the barrel. The top of the butt plate is marked “U.S.”. The overall condition is good. The iron parts have a gray patina. The markings are clear. The walnut stock is smooth and solid. The bore is in good condition. The action is excellent, strong and crisp. Here is a Civil War veteran for your collection! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 40 inches. Caliber: .58 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1750 #6180 SOLD Antique: Yes |
