CIVIL WAR Pattern 1853 Birmingham Small Arms Rifle
Description: CIVIL WAR Pattern 1853 Birmingham Small Arms Rifle Enfield Musket Likely 1862 Blockade Runner! Here we present an antique Pattern 1853 Third Model, or P’53/3, Birmingham Small Arms Trade Marked Commercial “Enfield” Rifle-Musket, made in 1862 in Birmingham, England. Most of these third models bear 1858 to 1864 lockplate dates. This is a good example of a Civil War imported Enfield musket that was likely run through the Northern blockade to the South. Nearly 300,000 of the .577-caliber rifles saw service with Confederate forces in virtually every major battle of the war. The Pattern 1853, third model was the most common in Confederate hands. Often, the stocks are stamped with cartouches from the Birmingham makers, as is this one. It has the Birmingham Small Arms Trade cartouche on the right side of the stock. The lock is marked “Tower” over 1862 with a crown behind the hammer without the Queen’s “VR” underneath, which is correct for a Civil War commercial purchase. The overall condition is fair. The iron surfaces are dark with age. The markings are legible. The front barrel band is a replacement. The walnut stock has been repaired in the section between the lock and the rearmost barrel band. The bore is dark and weathered with visible rifling. The action is strong and crisp. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 34 inches. Caliber: .58 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $850 #6032 SOLD Antique: Yes |
