Colt "Special Model 1861" Rifled Musket, Dated 1862

Description:
This is a hard used Civil War Colt "Special Model 1861" musket, dated 1862. These guns are sometimes referred to as "Colt Model 1862" muskets. Lockplate is sharply marked  “U. S. / COLT’S PT F. A. MFG CO / HARTFORD, CT”  and "1862" on the rear of the plate; left barrel breech facet is marked "V/P" with eagle head. The wood is original and unmodified--there are typical dings and scratches as shown in the photos, and there is a hairline crack to the rear of th barrel about 2 1/2 inches long. The barrel, plates, hammer and butt have a very light rust coating in areas, but no pitting. The foremost barrel band is missing--these guns had frequent loose barrel bands. The ramrod appears to be original. Gun is 56 1/2 inches long. Overall Good+ condition. It's a nice example priced to sell.
