Original Civil War Confederate Purchased Pattern 1853 Enfield Rifled Musket Tower 1861 with Numbered Buttplate

Description:
Gun retains a pleasing patina overall, markings in the metal are clear. The stock appears to have been refinished at some point, the JS Anchor mark behind the trigger guard is no longer visible, has some cracks, the most notable being ahead of the lock for a bit (visible in pictures). The lock has a single click to it, but works. Lock plate has been cleaned but is clearly marked TOWER 1861, there is no VR under the crown at the rear of the lock. The nipple is broken off. The rear barrel band is an American replacement, middle band is missing the and shoulders of the stock that it would rest on are slimmed down, front band appears to be correct with a replacement screw. Missing the ramrod. The rear sight is also absent, which is common on Confederate used Enfield muskets. Both swivels are also absent. The 39 inch barrel does not appear to have any rifling left and has a smooth bore. The top of the buttplate is properly numbered in the Confederate style with 4251 denoting that it came across on one of the blockade runners. A solid real Confederate purchased and used P-53 Enfield
