RARE Antique CIVIL WAR Era LEE’S FIRE ARMS Co. Single Shot SPORTING Rifle
1 of 1,000 Manufactured 1865-66
Description: RARE Antique CIVIL WAR Era LEE’S FIRE ARMS Co. Single Shot SPORTING Rifle 1 of 1,000 Manufactured 1865-66 Here we present an antique Lee’s Fire Arms Company Single Shot Sporting Rifle made circa 1865-66 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This rifle, along with the Lee carbines, were designed by James Paris Lee and as mentioned above, manufactured by Lee’s Fire Arms in the city best known for its numerous breweries and Schlitz Beer (I’ve heard it made Milwaukee famous). Though Lee is most famous for his bolt action and magazine design, the first production arms manufactured based on Lee’s designs were the single shot carbines and sporting rifles. Only 255 carbines and roughly 1,000 sporting rifles were completed by November of 1866, with about 202 others were nearly complete. Several components were outsourced during production, but they were all assembled in Milwaukee. A very detailed history of these firearms is laid out in the article James Lee, Wisconsin Arms Inventor, 1860-74 by Herb Uphoff available through the American Society of Arms Collectors. The top of the barrel is marked “LEE’S FIRE ARMS CO. MILWAUKEE, WIS/PATD JULY 22D 1862.” With the hammer at half cock, the side swing barrel opens for loading from the right. The overall condition is near fine. Original blue has been preserved. Strong action. Bright bore with sharp rifling. Each side of the wrist has a thin crack with a little wiggle, and overall remains in good shape. Sharp markings. A very rare and well-preserved rifle! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 29-1/2 inches. Caliber: .38 Rimfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2765 #217512 SOLD Antique: Yes |
