Rare Civil War Confederate South Carolina Marked Model 1842 Percussion .69 Cal Musket SC
Description:
These rare muskets are the 1842 pattern. They feature mostly unmarked locks, although this one has a C. for condemed. Proper 1851 dated barrel with V P eaglehead proof. SC marked on the buttplate in the same place you would normally find a US. It is speculated that these muskets were made by Benjamin Flagg using condemed parts from the original Waters contract and are the precursor to the Palmetto Armory made guns. Standard 42 inch barrel with bayonet lug on the bottom of the muzzle. Wood has some dings and handling marks, stamped JPC in several places, meaning unknown. There is some wood repair around the lock plate. Fine mechanical function. The ramrod appears to be an original but is a bit short. Gun retains a pleasing patina with an old coat of varnish or something on it. Has obvious manufacturing flaws on the lock face as well as on the barrel, which would make sense for condemed parts. Really a super interesting gun.
