Rare Civil War Imported 1839 Type Prussian German Saxe Infantry Musket

Description:
This is  one of the unicorns of Civil War muskets imported for the Civil War. This may be the only complete  survivor? It is a German/Prussian Saxe Infantry Musket that was imported for the Civil War. These muskets are discussed on page 134 of the outstanding reference book, “European Arms in the Civil War”. This one is in exceptionally good condition considering the age. The stock shows only minor handling dings and an excellent ramrod channel. The steel parts have a smooth gray/brown patina. The brass parts have a mild patina. The 40" barrel has a .72 bore. The overall musket length is around 57". The lock plate is marked a crown/SUHL/S&C. The breech is marked crown/S and 1844. Metal hardware is stamped with Prussian proofs. The ramrod is a copy of the original from The Rifle Shoppe and has a threaded hole in the tip for attaching appendages. The bore is smooth and very clean. The simple rear sight is incorporated into the breech plug. The action works strongly. This model was modified with a  the trigger rest trigger guard. This musket was most likely a M1839 Prussian musket that was modified.  The clean out screw head has broken off. At one time a socket bayonet lug was present under the barrel but was at some point removed but can be easily replaced. These muskets are very rare and this may be the only complete survior in existance?
