Scarce Parker Snow & Co. 1861/1864 Miller Conversion .58 Rimfire Civil War
Description: U.S. Parker Snow & Co., Model 1861 Musket w/ Miller Conversion, lock is marked "US" and is DATED 1864. Single Shot Breech Loading Rifle in .58 cal Rimfire! The barrel is 39" inches in length, rifled bore, and features its front sight and folding/adjustable rear sights. The bore is darker in fair/good condition, with no majro rust or pitting. The rifling is visible with crisp edges. The bore is in overall nice shape. Three "U" marked barrel bands, nose cap, band springs, trigger guard, "US" butt plate, and sling swivels are all present and original. Model 1861 swelled-shank ramrod is present and still has the threads on the end. The stock is in good shape with good finish and color. It has a few minor dings, dents, and scratches from use. There are two cracks. One that is opposite side of the lock (looks to have been possibly repaired), and one that is on the left side of the butt stock at the butt plate area. Please review pictures provided! Aside from the two cracks, the stock is in good condition, and the metal finishes are in good shape with a few minor dents, dings, and scratches from use, however the metal finish has a good even patina! Good overall finish! All mechanical operations of the lock, trigger, hammer (altered for this conversion to have a flat striking surface.), and conversion door/action work properly as they should! No issues! This rifle is a SCARCE alteration! Approximately 2,000 of these rifle were converted to the .58 Cal Rimfire bewtween 1865 and 1867! The number stamped on the conversion block is "1349". Miller Conversion Door marked "W.H. & G.W. Miller / Patent May 23 1865" and also marked "Meriden Man'FG. Co. / Meriden. Conn." Parker Snow & Co. later became what is known as the famous "Parker Bros." Shotgun company! Please review all pictures provided!
