Description:
A Scarce U.S. Civil War Percussion Greene Breech Loading Rifle In Very Good Untouched Condition. Only about 1,500 made from 1859 to the early1860's. They were developed by Lt. Col. J. Durrell Greene Of The U.S. Army & were the first bolt action firearm adopted by U.S. Ordance. In 1863 900 of them were sold to the U.S. Ordinance & 600 were sold to State Militia Units during the war. Made in .53 caliber. The rifle has very good plus metal throughout. It has fine markings on the upper tang which read "GREENE'S PATENT/NOV. 17,1857". The barrel still retains it plum blue finish on it. The rest of the parts are have a combination of original plum blue mixing with a plum brown patina. The wood is very good throughout & has a very old period repair on the right side of the breech. This very old repair is definitely period done as it has the same color and light wear as the rest of the wood on the rifle. The rifle has a fine action and bore. This Is A Nice Looking Example Of A Scarce U.S. Civil War Percussion Greene Breech Loading Rifle In Very Good Untouched Condition. This Scarce U.S. Rifle Would be A Fine Addition To Any Civil War Or Military Collection!
