Description: SUPERIOR CIVIL WAR SPRINGFIELD U.S. MODEL 1855 RIFLE-MUSKET DATED 1858. 40” rifled .58 cal. barrel dated 1858 with ‘V/P/EAGLE HEAD” proofs and Model 1855 Long Range rear sight seen on rifles dated 1857 and 1858 which were the first two years of production. And with the brass forend cap also seen only on early dated Model 1855’s. All original excellent plus with Lock dated 1858 as well and a with very crisp “EAGLE” on the Maynard Tape Primer door and perfect “U.S./SPRINGFIELD” stamp. Excellent metal nice original grey bright finish with light handling patina. Stock also excellent with the original finish and particularly sharp edges about the lock and the side panel. Extra nice and crisp “Erskin S. Allin “ESA” script Springfield Ordnance Sub-Inspector’s cartouche on side panel as well. Very sharp “U.S.” stamp on butt plate tang. Perfect working order with the tape primer having the original parts and an original tape still in it. Original nipple with the original blue. Excellent bright bore with extra sharp rifling.
