Triplett & Scott. KENTUCKY marked rifle
Description: Triplett & Scott. KENTUCKY marked rifle. Cal 56-50 Spencer rimfire. 30 “ barrel with a near mint bore. Made circa 1864-65 by the Meriden Manufacturing Co. Issued to the Kentucky Home Guard for supply train defense for the union army. Only 3000 30” barrel rifles were made. After the war 2810 were delivered back to the Federal Arsenal in NY Oct 21,1871. 7 Shot magazine tube housed in front of the wrist of the butt stock, the design left almost no wood over the magazine tube and left the wrist very weak. As a result almost every Triplett & Scott has a sever crack and often wood lose in that region. There is ( NO CRACK) or wood lose in this wrist because this rifle was hardly used. This is a RARE find on these rifles. Receiver still has traces of case color mostly on the right side. Barrel has approximately 85% blue and the butt stock and forearm are in excellent condition. Butt plate is also excellent, Overall this rifle is probably one of the best examples around.
