U.S. Civil War Issued & "Q" Marked Confederate Captured & Reissued, 5th Michigan Cavalry Used At Gettysburg Serial #1,811 Model 1860 Spencer Rifle!
Description: An Early & Very Rare U.S. Civil War Military Issued & "Q" Marked Confederate Captured 5th Michigan Cavalry Used At Gettysburg, Serial #1,811 Model 1860 Spencer Rifle In Untouched Condition. It was originally bought out of an old historic society museum 40-50 years ago. Most likely found on a battlefield. The rifle is in as found all original condition as shown in the photos. It is serial #1,811 which is one of the 400 rifles shipped in the second batch to Washington on Jan, 17, 1863 and issued to the 5th Michigan Cavalry. These Spencer Rifles were at the Battle Of Gettysburg with the 5th Michigan and many other battles after. The rifle has good untouched metal with good edges. The markings are visible on top of the breech. All of the wood on the rifle is original and untouched. There is a capital letter "Q" syamped behind the bottom tang on the underside of the stock. This "Q" means that the Spencer Rifle was Confederate Captured at either Gettysburg or a later battle and then & reissued to one of the Confederate Regiments. There is also a "JD, CO. A" carved in the rear of the stock on the back side. This could be a "Union" or "Confederate" Company marking. There is also a partial period tag with early writing on it that is most likely from the historic society it was found in. This needs to be studied further as some letters are visible. The rifle has a good bore and very good tight action. This Is A Very Early & Historic Civil War Model 1860 Spencer Rifle With Great Id'ed History On Both Sides Including The Battle Of Gettysburg. This Rare Historic Model 1860 Spencer Rifle Definitely Belongs in A Very Fine Civil War Or Historic Collection!
