This is an untouched Springfield M1861 Percussion musket with an 1864 dated lockplate and barrel. The stock has an old scratched name that appears to be “Shubert ”. This musket has that “battlefield pickup” appearance and I absolutely love that about it, it’s been there and done that and if only it could talk the stories it could tell. Mechanically the lock functions fine. The ramrod is missing but was replaced with an old wood rod. There are faint cartouches on the left flat. This is a really cool musket that with further research could prevail with a certain identity because of the name in the stock. Even as it is, it is a great display piece for any collection!
