WINCHESTER HENRY RIFLE U.S. MARTIAL MILITARY ISSUE SERIAL NUMBER 3923 ORIGINAL 1 OF 800 ISSUED IN CIVIL WAR
Description: HERES A REAL NICE ORIGINAL WINCHESTER U.S. MARTIAL HENRY SERIAL NUMBER 3923. THIS GUN HAS A STOCK AND BUTT PLATE WITH SERIAL NUMBER 3068. SO MOST ALL OF THIS GUN BARES THE SERIAL NUMBER 3923 BARREL,FRAME AND ALL THE SCREWS . THE STOCK AND BUT PLATE BARE SERIAL NUMBER 3068. KNOW I HAVE RESEARCHED BOTH SERIAL NUMBERS AND HAVE NOT FOUND THEM ANYWHERE . SO I BELIEVE THIS IS A UN-DISCOVERED U.S. MARTIAL HENRY. THE CONDITION HAS THAT UNTOUCHED LOOK ! METAL IS VERY SHARP AND LETTERING SHARP. ORIGINAL BRIGHT BLUE IS SLIGHTLY COMING THRU THAT HARD PATINA FINISH. TRACES OF STRONG BLUE IN HIDDEN AREAS. THE SIGHT LOOKS TO BE CRUDE AND MADE DURING THE CIVIL WAR PERIOD. BRASS IS UNTOUCHED AND HAS A WONDERFUL MELLOW PATINA. WOOD HAS BEEN WORKED ON THRU THE YEARS LIGHTLY SANDED AND SOME LINSEED OIL ADDED TO IT. IT IS LIGHT TO THE METAL FIT. WOOD STILL HAS 1/4 OF THE ORIGINAL CARTOUCHE ON RIGHT SIDE OF STOCK IN PROPER LOCATION. AND THE BUTT PLATE HAS THE PROPER C INSPECTOR STAMP ON RIGHT SIDE TOP OF BUTT PLATE. OVERALL A VERY GOOD EXAMPLE OF A U.S. MARTIAL HENRY RIFLE. FIRST REPEATING RIFLE IN THE CIVIL WAR. THERE WHERE 1000 OF THESE U.S. MARTIAL HENRYS CONTRACTED OUT. AND ONLY 800 ISSUED ALL THESE ISSUED MARTIAL HENRYS ARE BETWEEN THE 3000 TO 4000 SERIAL NUMBER RANGE. I BELIEVE THE STOCK WAS SWAPED IN THE FIELD DURING THE CIVIL WAR . THE CRUEDNESS OF THE BARREL SIGHT AND CONDITION LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THIS GUN FELL INTO CONFEDERATE HANDS. MAY BE ONE OF THE 100 HENRYS CAPTURED BY CONFEDERATE TROOPS DURING THE BATTLE AT REAMS STATION, VIRGINIA AURUST 25,1864. WHEN THE CONFEDERATES OVERRAN THE UNION AND TOOK 100 U.S. MARTIAL HENRYS RIFLES FROM THE UNION SOLDIERS. UNFORNTUNATLY THERE IS NO RECORD OF THOSE 100 GUNS TAKEN THAT DAY. WISH THIS GUN COULD TALK ! PLEASE REVIEW MY PHOTOS AND PLEASE EMAIL ME WITH ANY QUESTIONS ? BUYER PAYS SHIPPING SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: WINCHESTER Model: U.S. MARTIAL HENRY Serial Number: 3923 Caliber Info: 44 |
