Description: COLT LIGHTNING SLIDE ACTION, SMALL FRAME PUMP, .22 CALIBER, SERIAL NO. 53571 OF 89912 MADE. Standard 24" barrel, oil stained walnut stocks, checkered on the slide. This firearm has been finished to a highly polished blue and nearly factory new condition. I have never seen one this sparkling. Bluing has only minor markings from the slide. Wood is in as new condition with a few handling marks, action is tight and crisp. Distinct rifling. This rifle has been in my collection for 25 years . All markings are distinct as the pictures show. Last patent date on the barrel is 1887. This slide action rifle was originally patented by Dr. William H. Elliot covering the basic principle of the "trombone" slide. The Elliot name was on early models of this Colt rifle. This .22 rifle was a FIRST in Colt production history. It was the first ever designed for small game shooting and is still considered one of the most highly machined of all Colt rifles. Metal finish on all Lightning rifles is very fine due to careful polishing. SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: Colts Patented Firearms Mfg Co.
