Description: For consideration is a very nice antique Colt Lightning pump action rifle in .44-40 WCF caliber. The Colt Lightning Carbine or Colt Lightning Rifle was a slide-action (pump-action) rifle manufactured by Colt from 1884 until 1904 and was originally chambered in .44-40 caliber. Colt eventually made the Lightning Rifle in three different frame sizes, to accommodate a wide range of cartridges, from .22 Short caliber and .38-40 to .50-95 Express. Its profile resembles the pump-action rimfire rifles made by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company and Remington Arms.This beautiful Colt Lightning qualifies as an antique as it was made in 1898. It is in very good overall condition both mechanically and physically exhibiting some high edge wear and handling marks earned over the last 120+ years. Most of the wear/marks on the receiver of the rifle...looks like wear that would be consistent with going into and out of a safe. The metal butt plate has lost some finish on both sides at the top. There is some high edge and muzzle wear on the metal components. The wood is outstanding exhibiting only light marks. The octagon barrel has a good bore with strong rifling. This fine Colt Lightning is in very good condition and they are hard to find in this condition. This would make a great addition to an existing collection or a strong start to a new collection.
