Colt Lightning - small frame .22 long Unique Special Order
Description: The small-frame Lightning (also referred to as "Second Model Colt Lightning"[4]) was the first rimfire rifle made by Colt and was manufactured between 1887 and 1904 as a plinking and gallery gun.[4][5] Colt records indicate 89,912 were made, in .22 Short and .22 Long.[4] Barrel length was 24 in (61 cm) and the rifles had a blued finish, case-hardened hammer, and a walnut stock.[4] (Wikipedia) This is a small frame special order from the factory in a 26” length barrel. This was a unique model as factory models only had 24” barrels. It is in .22 long caliber and per Colt’s serial number database was manufactured in 1904; the last year of production. The overall finish retains 90% or better of its original bluing with a genuinely nice deep patina on the magazine tube. The case color hardening is still visible on the top cover. There is some wear on the left side top of the receiver that I can only explain as being taken in and out of a storage sleeve. It is not apparent on the right side. The Colt “Rampart” is sharp on the left side of the receiver along with the Colt patent information on the barrel. The wood is in excellent shape only showing minor handling marks. The bore is bright and shiny. This would be a special addition to anyone’s collection. Please check my photos carefully and email any questions you might have. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Rifle Caliber: .22 Long Manufacturer: Colt Model: Lightning Serial Number: 86897 Barrel Length: 26 Condition: Excellent Metal Condition: retains most of original bluing Wood Condition: excellent Bore Condition: Clear and shiny Barrel Type: octagon Action: pump Manufacture Date: 1904 |
