Evolved from the 1860 Henry rifle, the Model 1866 was the first Winchester rifle. It became known as the Yellowboy because of it‚s distinctive brass frame and was an instant success. Originally chambered for the rimfire .44 Henry cartridge, the 1866 improved on flaws in the original Henry design by incorporating a loading gate on the side of the frame, and adding a round sealed tubular magazine covered by the forend.
