Rossi R92 Polished Black Oxide, Gold Edition, 20” Carbine .357 Magnum New in Box
Description: The Rossi R92 is a classic copy of the original Winchester Model 1892 rifle designed by John Moses Browning, the fame inventor of the Model 1911 pistol and Auto-5 shotgun. Unlike the original rifle, the R92 features a bolt mounted manual safety. While somewhat out of place, it does ensure the rifle cannot go off accidentally under any circumstances. This rifle is brand new in the box. It features a round, 20-inch-long barrel and a magazine tube capable of holding 10 rounds. It has Brazilian Hardwood furniture and a polished black oxide finish. As the Gold Edition version, the barrel bands, trigger, hammer, lever, and butt plate have a special Gold Titanium finish. This is a special finish that has much of the appearance of gold plating but is much more durable. It should be mentioned that the R92 in .357 Magnum can also safely fire the .38 S&W Special and the .38 Long Colt. This is because both of those cartridges are the .357 Magnum’s predecessors, both being slightly shorter in length but having the same rim diameter. Introduced in 1875, the .38 Long Colt was developed from the .38 Short Colt. While certainly longer, the .38 Long Colt differed most from its predecessor in the use of the internally lubricated bullet as commonly used today in modern firearms ammunition. Previously, the nose or front end of a bullet was actually the same diameter as the case. The .44 S&W Russian cartridge brought about this change in bullet design in 1870 and the .38 Long Colt followed 5 years later. The switch in bullet types is also why older .38 cartridges used bullets roughly .380” diameter and modern ones are .357” diameter. Never known for its stopping power, the .38 Long Colt was lengthened to create the .38 Special in 1898. The same was done with the .38 Special to create the .357 Magnum in 1934. The R92 would make an excellent partner for any revolver chambered in the .357 Magnum such as the Smith & Wesson Models 19, 66, 586/686, and 27/627, the Dan Wesson Model 15/715, Ruger’s Vaquero, Blackhawk, GP100 and Redhawk (8-shot .357 model), and the Colt Snake Series of double action revolvers, not to mention their classic Single Action Army. Uberti makes some excellent copies of the SAA as well. Rossi has also resumed production of .357-chambered revolvers. Matching pairs was an important consideration back in the days of the Old West. A person who had a rifle and a pistol in the same caliber only had to carry one type of round, thus saving weight. There is a factory error on the box label. Although the serial number is correct, the description, SKU, and UPC code are not correct according to the . The box description is given as “R92 .357Mag SS/HW 16” 8-Rds”. This is clearly not correct and describes the stainless 16” 357 model. I have included a picture of the serial number on the receiver and a picture of the box label.
