Up for sale is a custom
.219 Donaldson Wasp built on a
Mauser 98 action. The .219 Donaldson Wasp is one of the most respected classic wildcat cartridges, developed by Harvey Donaldson in the 1930s. It earned a reputation for exceptional long-range accuracy on prairie dogs, groundhogs, and other varmints, and was considered one of the premier high-velocity .22-caliber cartridges before the .22-250 Remington became standardized.
This rifle features:
- Mauser 98 controlled-round-feed action
- Chambered in the legendary .219 Donaldson Wasp
- .22 caliber
- Custom varmint rifle
- Excellent choice for collectors, wildcat enthusiasts, and precision shooters
The .219 Donaldson Wasp is capable of pushing 50-55 grain bullets at approximately
3,500-3,700 fps (depending on load and barrel length), offering excellent accuracy with relatively modest powder consumption. Many benchrest competitors used this cartridge before newer cartridges became popular.
Because it is a
wildcat cartridge, ammunition is not factory loaded and must be handloaded. Brass is typically formed from
.30-30 Winchester or
.219 Zipper cases, making it best suited for experienced reloaders.
