Description:
This is a 1967 P.O. Ackley/Harry McGowen custom rifle. The .300 Mag, 26" McGowen barrel is mounted to a Left Handed M98 Ackley action. This is then fitted (glass embedded) onto a McGowen Marksman Maple stock laminated with Cherry tips and spacers. THIS CUSTOM FIREARM IS ONE OF MAYBE FIFTY LH ACKLEY/MCGOWEN RIFLES EVER MADE. The LOP including the recoil pad is 14". This is a true left hand firearm and is not a retrofit. The action is stamped with P.O. Ackley, Salt Lake City, Utah on the right side. The receiver is stamped on the flat area with "Made in Japan Y" which is covered by the stock. .300 Mag is stamped atop the barrel. "Harry McGowen 10/12/67 1757 R8" is stamped on the underside of the barrel and covered by the stock. The action floorplate has a couple of marks; otherwise the firearm's bluing is in very good/excellent condition (+90%). The stock is in very good/excellent condition with a few marks consistent with normal use. The pistol grip is carved and checked with oak leaves and acorns. Opposite side cheek plate is carved with a moose and mountains. The firearm comes with a 2.5 X 8 Weaver scope and fleece lined, soft-sided rifle case. A McGowen brochure with the postmark of Jan 11, 1967, and a note in Harry McGowen's handwriting explaining rework of firearm's extractor is included.
