Custom '03 - Leupold and Dies
Description: For sale is a custom rifle with classic American styling; included in the sale is a new Redding die set, sized brass and a Leupold scope. According to my father's gun dairy he purchased the rifle from his local shop in 2003. At the time he noted that the "3 - 64" on the barrel indicated March 1964, and the barrel was of excellent quality. It is likely he talked to the fellow who brought it in. He went on to write that the inletting and checkering were poor however. The next entry in July of '07 states he had stripped the stock for refinish and was glass bedding the action due to the poor inletting. After refinishing and bedding the stock he recut all of the checkering and added the second panel on the right side. In September, he did three rounds of load development referencing an early Nosler manual and an issue of handloader from 1980. The final loading achieved 5 shots in 1" at 110 yrds with '62 LC Match brass, 140 grn Remington PCP, and 48 grns of IMR 4831. He also notes the barrel is a 1-9 twist. The brass I have has been sized from 270 and some have been turned. This is one of many project guns my dad completed. For his level of experience he had some talent, and this is a good example of it. The checkering of the pistol grip has a few subtle flaws, but the forend is quite clean. The finish work is excellent. I was extremely careful when removing the action/barrel from the bedding, and it fit tightly and smoothly when I returned it. The original stockmaker did a beautiful job on the cheekpiece, and the rifle presents almost prefectly to my eye. With a 2 lbs trigger it all makes for a unique and usable hunting rifle for those who like wildcats. I can only take certified check or postal money order. The day after payment is recieved I will ship the gun in a hardcase via USPS for $90. Please send me an FFL copy with payment or in a separate email. If there are any questions or images I can provide, just send me an email. I will try to respond as quickly as I can. I am open to offers, and will sell without the scope for a reduced price.
