Description:
Custom Mauser 98 7x57. Based on a commercial Czech Model 98 barreled action with serial 12748 dated 1946, features include a 20.5-inch barrel (ramp front sight base with checkered face, drift-adjustable rear sight with fixed and folding leafs), rust blue, polished extractor, custom bolt handle (scalloped), custom shroud with two-position safety, checkered bolt release button and set triggers. STOCK: The AAA-grade walnut full stock with stout directional grain is thoughtfully trim and well executed. Appointments include a steel forend cap, fine wrap checkering with partial Mullered borders, scalloped cheek rest with shadow line, skeleton grip cap and butt plate, inletted sling swivel studs and an oil finish. ENGRAVING: The bust of a Rocky Mountain bighorn ram surrounded by bold leafy vine rides the plate. As with the balance of the work, the engraving is unattributed. OPTIC: A Leupold Vari-X III 1.5-5x (one inch tube, matte, Duplex reticle, .25 MOA clicks) is secured in Kimber of Oregon lever rings. Optic is clear with good lens coatings. DIMENSIONS: Weight (with optic) is 7.8 pounds and the length-of-pull is 14.0 inches. CONDITION: The bore is strong and bright with some faint machining marks. Mechanics operate properly. Metal finish is approximately 95 percent with instances of trace roughness visible under the bluing. Wood is at least 95 percent with a rack impression (left side under front ring) and a few minor impressions near the toe. The price is firm and layaway is available. $4,500 plus shipping.
