Custom Winchester Pre 64 M70 in 243 Winchester
Description: Custom stocked pre 64 Winchester M70 in 243 Winchester. Standard weight 24” sightless barrel with very good to excellent bore. Custom stocked in English Walnut with good grain flow, color streaking and some fiddleback. Point pattern checkering that goes well with the stock design, wraps around the forearm and over the top of the grip. 13 ¼” LOP over a Neidner style checkered steel buttplate, matching checkered steel pistol grip cap. Gabon Ebony forend tip. Double shadow cheekpiece with monte carlo rollover comb. Sling eyes on stock, rifle will ship with new quick detachable sling swivels. The stock is newly refinished with hand rubbed linseed oil. Inletting is very professional and rifle is bedded in the wood. The original stockmaker is uncertain but the name Howard Tanger is penciled in the barrel channel. If anyone reading this knew or knew of Mr Tanger I would appreciate hearing from you. The barreled action is as it left the factory with some enhancements. The bolt knob is hand checkered, the bolt release is built up and also hand checkered. Bolt and follower are jeweled. The rear tang screw hole is welded closed for a smooth appearance. The forearm tie down screw is retained. All screws are timed with slots lined up N-S. Metal was hand prepped and then blued by Roy Bedeaux, Albuquerque, NM. Roy and his father Jim did much of the metal work for renowned gunmaker Dale Goens. The job follows the original M70 finish with textured receiver and all other parts smooth. Serial number indicates 1959 manufacture. The gentleman I acquired it from had bought it for his father some 30+ years ago. Dad put it in the safe and never fired it. After his passing the son sold the estate guns, so it has seen limited use. It is now restored and upgraded to new condition, ready for the scope and mounts of your choice. This will make a great Deer-Antelope rifle. More photos available on request. Thanks for looking. SOLD Manufacturer: Winchester Model: M70 Caliber Info: 243 Win Condition: Like new |
