Description:
Hoenig custom Winchester pre-64 Model 70 .30-06. Acquired by Tom Selleck from the Petersen collection and gifted to a close friend, serial 256593 has a custom 24-inch barrel (contoured front sight assembly with stippled face, folding hood and black blade, contoured island rear sight assembly with stippled face, adjustable express blade), polished action, reshaped and checkered bolt release button, lightly contoured bottom metal (checkered trap release), tuned trigger and custom mounts (serialed to the rifle, one-inch rings). STOCK: Shaped to the contour of a proper mountain rifle from a strong-grained AA blank, appointments include flawless wrap checkering, open grip profile, scalloped cheek rest with beveled edge, Pachmayr detachable sling loops and a Pachmayr Old English recoil pad. CAPACITY: Six rounds (five plus one). The extractor "snaps over" rounds dropped into the chamber. Feeding/extraction/ejection are positive. DIMENSIONS: Weight (with optic) is 8.8 pounds and the length-of-pull is 13.5 inches. CONDITION: The bore is outstanding. Metal finish (rust blue) is well over 90 percent with one small ding on top of the barrel, trace evidence of handling and some light freckling on the grip cap. Wood is over 90 percent with a scattering of small field impressions. PROVENANCE: The original gift card from Tom Selleck as well as his recent letter of provenance (shown with incorrect serial, a new letter is inbound) are included. NOTE: The grip cap has a silver inlay with initials "TS", in all likelihood for Tom Siatos, Petersen's long-time business associate and friend.
