Description:
Custom Oberndorf Mauser Model 98 7mm Remington Magnum with logical attribution of the build to John Warren. Serial 57608 has a 23-inch sporter barrel (.565-inch muzzle diameter, sling swivel stud with oval pedestal). Features include a jeweled extractor/bolt body/follower, checkered bolt knob (four large panels, four small panels, intricate sunburst point, bordering), custom shroud, extended tang (tapered, checkered two-position safety), custom bottom metal, Canjar M-3 trigger and Buehler mounts (one-inch low rings). STOCK: Drawn from well-figured walnut, appointments include a sweeping rosewood forend tip (subtile Schnabel, tapering point), wrap checkering (borderless, 26 lines-per-inch), bolt release pedestal, Monte Carlo comb, scalloped cheek rest with shadow line, trap door grip cap and  butt plate (widow's peak). The forward attaching screw rides a metal pillar. ENGRAVING: Signed “John Warren Eng.” inside the butt trap. Both “7mm Rem. Mag." and “SAFE” appear in gold. The plate wears full coverage scroll and lattice. CAPACITY: Four rounds (three plus one). DIMENSIONS: Weight (with mounts) is 7.8 pounds and the length-of-pull is 14.3 inches. CONDITION: The bore is strong and bright. Trigger pull is crisp and mechanical functions solid. Rust blue is approximately 95 percent. Butt plate is approximately 85 percent with minor thinning and superficial tarnish. Wood is approximately 90 percent with a scattering of impressions.
