LIGHT VARMINTER ON AN ANTIQUE WINCHESTER HIGHWALL ACTION
Description: BEAUTIFULLY CRAFTED LIGHT VARMINTER ON AN ANTIQUE WINCHESTER HIGHWALL ACTION WITH SINGLE SET TRIGGER. This classic sporter is in .225 Win. caliber. Since this cartridge was introduced in 1964 it is probably safe to assume that going by the overall style of this fine rifle it was probably made in the mid to late 1960s. The receiver is serial numbered in the 29XXX range which puts it at 1888 (No FFL required on this one!) and has been beautifully bone/charcoal color case hardened. The receiver really is spectacular. It also has a single set trigger than functions perfectly and has an adjustment screw. The medium contour barrel is unmarked except for caliber designation and measures 26” with a target crown. The muzzle of the barrel wears an expensive and classy barrel band hooded front sight. The rear of the barrel has a flawlessly mounted 6 ¾” solid rib which holds the scope mount and rings. There is a classic steel Weaver scope with dual X cross hairs. Not sure what power as the markings on the side are light (possibly a refinished scope). The front scope ring is adjustable from 50 feet to 1000 yards. The butt stock has a very slight Monte Carlo profile with large cheek piece on the left side and is nicely figured walnut. It has a thin Pachmayr marked solid butt plate behind a thin black spacer. The pistol grip is sharply checkered and sports a classic Winchester embossed grip cap- nice touch! The forend is of the sporter shape, not a varmint forend, and sharp, beautiful nearly full length checkering and an ebony forend tip that shows some grain pattern. There are also quick detachable sling swivel studs on the stock and forend. All in like new condition. This rifle weighs approx. 10 ¼ lbs. If one didn’t like the .225 Win. Caliber, it would be easy to re-chamber it to .220 Swift as both share the identical dimensioned semi-rimmed configuration with the Swift being a little larger and longer in the case body only. This quality rifle on this kind of set-trigger action with these case colors would cost a fortune to duplicate today.
