MARTIN HAGN 6MM ENGRAVED BY HEINZ FUNK
Description: MARTIN HAGN 6MM ENGRAVED BY HEINZ FUNK Hagn actioned single shot rifle built by Martin Hagn in 1983, caliber 6mm Remington. 26” German made barrel with integral front sight base, full-length rib. Weight 7 lb 15 oz with Zeiss Diatal Z 6x42 scope with claw and rail mounts. Top of action has Hagn’s round recessed hallmark in silver. Stocked in burl walnut checkered about 24-lpi point pattern with fluers. Steel grip cap, diamond forend escutcheon. Cheekpiece stock 14 ¼” LOP to a checkered but. To access the through-bolt hole Martin Hagn made an ebony plug that is threaded with the slot aligning as a line of the checkering (see photo). The most exceptional feature of this outstanding rifle is the nearly full coverage small English scroll engraving by Heinz Funk (b 1933) and signed on the bottom of the action in front of the trigger (see photo). Funk is elderly career German engraver who worked as something of a house engraver for Hartmann & Weiss and engraved a number of guns for Hagn. After a 40-year career with fine gunmaking I can say without equivocation, this is my favorite example of firearms engraving. I wrote an essay about the engraving of this rifle that was published in The Accurate Rifle Magazine and can be found on mysite at this link: ://finegunmaking/page34/page9/page9.html Nearly every piece and part of the rifle is engraved with small scrollwork including the scope mounts and sling swivels. All Hagn actioned rifles are scarce and those made by Martin Hagn rarely come up for resale. I have a copy of a letter from Martin Hagn describing this rifle and that the original owner passed away. This action was manufactured by Hartmann & Weiss, Hamburg (under an agreement with Hagn) and is so marked on the side of the lever that can only be seen when the lever is opened. Barrel twist is 1 in 10 inches that will determine appropriate bullet weight. **SPF** SOLD Manufacturer: Martin Hagn Model: SINGLE SHOT FALLING BLOCK Caliber Info: 6MM REM Condition: EXCELLENT Metal Condition: EXCELLENT Wood Condition: EXCELLENT Bore Condition: EXCELLENT Barrels: OCTAGON Barrel Type: INTEGRAL Action: HAGN Stock: BURL WALNUT LOP: 14 1/4 Rib: FULL LENGTH Weight: 7lb 14 oz Sights: yes Manufacture Date: 1983 Engraving: Exceptional |
