Offered her for sale and just acquired along with a fine collection fine of heavy benchrest target rifles is this fine heavy target rifle custom crafted by well known gunsmith and custom rifle maker Richard Ruggeiro of Connecticut.
The .250 Donaldson Ace is a wildcat cartridge. It was created by Harvey Donaldson in the late 1940s. The “Ace” is a variant of the broader “Donaldson” family — the standard “250 Donaldson” uses a parent case derived from .257 Roberts (with a case length around 2.10”). The Ace (or “Don-Ace”) version is based on the .250-3000 Savage (.250 Savage) case, trimmed down to about 1.92" case length.
The Don-Ace was designed to be a relatively “mild,” short-case .25-caliber round — presumably offering some balance between power, recoil, and barrel wear, perhaps intended for varmint, groundhog, or similar shooting rather than heavy long-range big-bore use. It is popular among “varmint shooter[s] as well as benchrest shooters”. The Don-Ace occupies a niche: a “quarter-bore” wildcat from the mid-20th century, bridging between old-school varmint work and custom benchrest experimentation.
The Stolle Panda action was originally developed by Ralph Stolle in the late 1960s / 1970s. The Panda action remains very popular for benchrest, varmint, and even “Heavy Varmint” class rifles.
This highly attractive rifle exhibits a colorful laminated stock contrasted with stainless 33” barrel highly polished action and a stainless Weaver 36X Microtrac scope. Along with purchase is included dies for the cartridge making.
