Description:
The CZ Bren 2 MS is a development of the original 805 Bren. While the 805 was built to a specific set of requirements created by the Czech military, the Bren 2 represents a total overhaul. The focus of the design changes was to reduce the size and weight of both the pistol and rifle versions while improving the modularity. The aluminum receiver has been trimmed down in size while the lower is made from a carbon fiber-reinforced polymer. The carbine version is available in the classic 5.56 NATO and features a 16.5-inch-long barrel. It has the SKU number of 08610. The barrel is cold hammer forged. The rifling consists of conventional lands and grooves, with 6 grooves and a 1:7-inch right-hand twist. This should be more than sufficient to stabilize the heaviest bullets available for the 5.56 NATO and .223 Remington. Equipped with a Spiral three-arm flash hider from the factory, the muzzle is threaded with the 1/2-28 pitch found on most 5.56 and 9mm firearms, making the installation of other muzzle devices very easy. The aluminum fore end features M-LOK slots and little bolt-on rail-less rail sections. The easy attachment of M-Lok rails allows for the mounting of a variety of accessories such as a flashlight and laser. Blending naturally with the fore end, the aluminum upper features a MIL-STD 1913 picatinny rail for mounting a variety of sights. Whereas the previous 805 Bren had a reciprocating charging handle, the Bren 2 features a more ergonomical non-reciprocating handle. It can be swapped from left to right to suit the user’s needs. The lower receiver features an AR-style bolt-catch/release that is mirrored on both sides of the firearm, as well as a third catch/release lever located in the inner face of the trigger guard. The magazine release and safety are also ambidextrous. The butt stock is a dual folding/collapsing type. At 35.6 inches in length, folding the stock brings the Bren 2 MS Carbine down to a mere 28 inches – making it far easier to transport or store. What separates the Bren 2 from most AR15 rifles is the use of a high-quality gas piston system. This allows the Bren 2 to operate much more efficiently and cleaner. The gas block features a switch with three positions, marked 1, 2, and 0. Position 1 is for normal use, 2 is for adverse conditions (i.e. more gas), and 0 is for “off”. The second setting is best for use with lower quality ammo or suppressors. The two-stage trigger will have a pull weight of around 4.5 lbs. The integral polymer pistol grip features a removable backstrap and a storage space. Weight of the Bren 2 MS is a respectable 7.3 lbs. with an empty magazine. There is a full cleaning kit and two factory-issue 30-round magazines. Needless to say, the Bren 2 will accept a large number of the differing types of 5.56 magazines as long as they are STANAG-compatible. Overall, the Bren 2 MS is a fine rifle and one suited for a variety of tasks, with the reliability to back it up in the worst of conditions.
