WW2 Nazi Re-work 1929 Czech Military CZ VZ.24 Rifle in 8mm Mauser w/ Original Czech Leather Sling
** All-Matching & Original!!! ** SOLD
Description: This is a very scarce and exceptionally cool World War 2 Nazi re-work of a Czech CZ VZ.24 rifle that was originally manufactured and accepted into Czech Military service in 1929. Nazi Germany invaded Czechoslovakia on March 15th, 1938 and quickly defeated the Czech Military. The Czech Military was disbanded and had to surrender all of their arms and equipment to the Germans, which included 762,000 VZ.24 rifles and bayonets. The Germans took these surrendered/captured rifles and re-worked them to put them into service with the German Military as the G24(t), short for Gewehr 24(t) ('t' being the national origin designator tschechoslowakisch, the German word for "Czechoslovak"; such national origin designators were German practice for all foreign weapons taken into service). The re-working consisted of cleaning and inspecting the rifle, replacing any worn or damaged parts, and modifying the stock to suit the Germans. The re-worked rifle was then stamped with Waffenamts, showing that it was inspected and accepted into German Military service. These re-worked VZ.24 rifles were put into service with all of the branches of the German Military as well as the Nazi's SS units throughout Nazi Germany and the occupied territories. The Germans also took over the CZ factory in Brno and continued to make the VZ.24 rifle in the G24(t) configuration for the remainder of the occupation. Today, these German re-worked VZ.24's are sought-after by collectors, with un-molested and all-original examples few and far between. This particular example is serial number 1308M2, and it is 100% original and complete. As you can see from the pictures, it is a very handsome rifle and has obviously been well-cared for since being brought to the States as a "war trophy" with an American G.I. This VZ.24 is 100% matching, with all of the numbered parts matching including the stock. The original factory blue finish is very attractive and has a combat-used look to it. All of the metal parts show a consistent degree of wear and handling marks, and there are no bad spots or eyesores on the gun. All of the factory stampings are clean and crisp on this rifle, and the Czech Military inspection stamps are all nice and clear as well. Of note is the Czech Military acceptance stamp on the left side of the receiver above the serial number which is an "E" followed by A Czech lion and "29", which stands for the date in which it went into military service, 1929. The bolt in this rifle is in great shape. Originally "in the white" and polished from the factory, there are no bad stains or spots of corrosion, the bolt face is clean with just a partial primer halo, and the factory applied serial number and inspection marks are crisp. The bore in this VZ.24 ois very good to excellent. The rifling still shows nice sharp lands and grooves throughout the barrel, and the bore is very bright and clean. The original stock set on this German-captured CZ is in great shape overall. Both the handguard and buttstock are factory-numbered to the gun and both parts are free from any major damage or repairs. The buttstock is numbered with the full serial number on the left side of the butt just above the buttplate, while the handguard is numbered with the last two digits of the serial number on the left side rear behind the rear sight cut-out. The European Walnut shows lots of small dings/dents/handling marks typical of a combat-used rifle. This is particularly true when you figure that this rifle was in service for 9 years with the Czech Military before it was captured by the Germans and used for another 4 to 5 years in WW2. The handguard has one minor small crack in it, just forward of the rear sight that extends for about an inch. The German modifications of this original stock include the fitting of a cupped steel buttplate and the removal of the wrist-mounted sling swivel. As you can see from the pictures, the wrist sling swivel hole was expertly plugged with a Walnut dowel, and the German K-98-type cupped buttplate was properly fit to the stock. The cupped buttplate is stamped with German contractor code of "brg" and an WaA497 Waffenamt on the rear face. We removed the buttplate to check the inside, and it has the proper dull red paint AND a still-visible ink stamp consisting of a boxed Nazi Eagle clutching a Swastika next to "Wa. 497". The two German Military inspection stamps on the stock itself are on the inside of the pistol grip, stacked on top of each other. Both of them are a Nazi Eagle w/ Swastika over "Ka14". The action on this rifle is slick and precise, and the bolt functions perfectly, locking into battery perfectly with no slop or grit. All of the controls on this VZ.24 are in perfect working order, including the safety and adjustable rear sight. We have no doubt that this Nazi-reworked VZ.24 would function just as reliably and accurately now as it did during WW2. As mentioned in the title, this VZ.24 comes with the original Czech Military leather sling in good condition. The leather is still flexible and 100% intact, still perfectly capable of being used for it's designed purpose. This VZ.24 also comes complete with it's original cleaning rod and a Czech-issue removable protective hood for the front sight. The front sights on these rifles were not grooved for a sight hood, so CZ provided these protective covers that clamped to the front sight post. If you have been looking for a really neat new addition to your WW2 weapons collection this Nazi re-worked VZ.24 rifle would be a superb choice. This is a very cool and scarce rifle with a lot of history behind it, and with all-original WW2 German weapons continually appreciating in value it should be an excellent long-term investment.
