Dakota Arms 76 Classic Rifle – Customized by Hill Country Rifles – 6.5 Creedmoor – Ultra-Accurate
Description: For Sale is a used, in excellent plus condition (less than 100 rounds fired), Dakota 76 Classic rifle customized by Hill Country Rifles (HCR) of New Braunfels, Texas with 2 Stocks (Original Dakota XX English Walnut & McMillan Hunter’s Edge). This rifle started life as a new, Dakota 76 Classic rifle chambered in 22-250 that I took in on a trade. The rifle was sent subsequently sent to HCR to be accurized and rebarreled to 6.5 Creedmoor using a 22” Benchmark 1:8 Twist 3 Groove #2 Contour, match grade barrel. The rifle was returned by HCR with a .380” test target at 100 yards using Hornady 143 grain ELD-X factory ammunition. At a later date, the rifle was again sent to HCR to be fitted in a new McMillan Hunters Edge Carbon Fiber Stock (Gray with Black Specs). The action was pillar and glass bedded and all metal was finished in Graphite Black Cerakote. This time the rifle was returned with a .240” test target at 100 yards using Barnes 120 grain VOR-TX TTSX BT factory ammunition. I have since shot .170” groups at 100 yards with this rifle using Barnes 120 grain factory ammunition. In it’s current configuration, the rifle is very similar to Hill Country Rifle’s “Long Range Hunter” model, making it ideal for open country hunting, where longer shots are often necessary. Weight of the rifle with the McMillan stock, bases and rings installed, but without a scope is approximately 7.39 lbs., and approximately 8.77 lbs. with the currently mounted Swarovski scope, which weighs 1.39 lbs. Dakota’s Model?76 action blends elements from the pre-’64 Model 70s and the Mauser. It’s a controlled-round feed system with a three-position safety mounted on the bolt shroud and an open-design two-piece trigger, which is favored for its reliability. The action also features a flush-mounted side bolt release that practically disappears into the receiver in the closed position. The original Dakota stock (Checkered XX grade English walnut, with ebony forend tip, inletted sling swivels, and deluxe recoil pad), which was pillar and glass bedded to the action when the rifle was rebarreled to 6.5 Creedmoor, is included in the sale. The length of pull (LOP) is approximately 13.5” with the McMillan stock and 13.7” with the Dakota stock. The pictured Talley Scope Bases and 30mm Screw Lock Rings are included in the sale. The pictured Swarovski Scope is not included in the sale. Dakota Arms was purchased by Remington Arms in 2009 and subsequently acquired by its current owners, Parkwest Arms, in the wake of Remington’s bankruptcy. Parkwest (still residing in Sturgis, South Dakota) continues to build on Dakota’s legacy of high-end rifle builds. Parkwest’s current SD-76 Legend rifle (the model most similar to the legacy Dakota 76 Classic) build starts at $8,495 and only has a Sub MOA Guarantee (in most calibers). This is a rare opportunity to own a proven superbly accurate rifle in a versatile caliber that can be deployed to meet your most demanding long range hunting needs.
