Crude British Volunteer Sword Socket Bayonets
Description: This is an interesting Sword Socket Bayonets which appears and is described in Paul Kieslings Book "Bayonets of the World" #696 page 502. He states he thinks it is British dating from around 1795, this bayonet is also seen in "British & Commonwealth Bayonet" by Skennerton and Richardson. This example has a total length of 681mm, socket 102mm, M.R.D. 23.08, blade thickness 9.4mm and a socket length of 101.3mm. The blade is approximately 33mm wide and is hand-made and filed. Possibly built in India. There are many imperfection in the hand forging of the blade which show as small cracks and missing material. The blade is marked with a Broad-arrow and Crown with another marking on the back of the socket were someone in the past has cleaned the metal to get a look, it appears to be "53_ _" in period font. The socket and elbow show age and deep patina. This will be a good addition to any collection.; Price: $145.00 Contact Seller |
