HENRI PIEPER Double Barrel Belgian Made Side by Side HAMMER CAPE GUN
Nice Turn of the Century RIFLE/SHOTGUN!
Description: HENRI PIEPER Double Barrel Belgian Made Side by Side HAMMER CAPE GUN Nice Turn of the Century RIFLE/SHOTGUN! Here we present a Henri Pieper Double Barrel Side by Side Cape Gun, made circa the end of the 19th Century in Belgium. Henri Pieper was a German born gunmaker in Belgium. He began in Liege in 1866 under the business name “Anciens Etablissements Pieper”. The rapid growth of his early business was party due to an excellent decision to purchase a barrel factory in Nessonvaux. Some of Remington’s finest double shotguns of the time have the maker’s mark of “HP” on them from this factory. These were typically high-end hunting weapons that featured a side by side configuration with one barrel rifled and the other smooth. The hunter would use the rifled barrel to fire long range, precise shots against large game and use the smooth could be loaded with a large ball or slug for a quick follow up shot, especially on large and dangerous game, or the smooth bore could be loaded with shot to make it feasible to hunt fowl at the same time without carrying multiple guns. The gun has two triggers to allow either barrel as needed. Cape guns made in Germany, Belgium, and Austria usually have the rifled barrel on the right side (as is this one), while British made cape guns are usually reversed. These were supremely handy firearms that could also be used to defend the homestead or put game on the table. The overall condition is good. Original patina. Robust action. Bright bores. This example has maintained a solid stock with average wear. The checkering has smoothed. Clear markings. Numbers match. Liege proofed barrel. This firearm is classified as Antique. Barrels are 29-3/4 inches. Caliber: Right – 9.6mm Rifled ; Left - 12 Gauge Chamber: 2-3/4 inch with Extractor Choke: Improved Modified LOP: 13 inches Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1800 #226334 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
