Alex Henry best quality top lever sidelock hammerless double rifle
Description: .450/.400 2 3/8 BPE Alex Henry double rifle made for R B Rodda Company of Calcutta. In its original Oak and Leather case with many reloading accessories fitted to the case, as was common with best quality Henry rifles. Approx 30% muted case colors and 90% I believe original brown on the 28" damascus barrels. The rifle looks like it was very seldom used and is in excellent condition. Bores are in superb condition with Henry rifling. Very minor bruising on the beautifully figured stock. Full engraving is in as made condition and the checkering is crisp and never touched! Barrels have one standing and one flip up sight and are in excellent condition. Usual shadow lined cheekpiece. Weight of rifle is: 8lb 6.2 oz. barrels weigh 4lb 11.6 oz. Pull from front trigger is: 14 1/8". Interior of case is in very very good condition with original green baize lining and R B Rodda & Co stamped in Gold on the interior case lid. Case is SOLID inside, Exterior shows some wear, but is in very good condition. This Henry cased set is extreemly rare and in this condition even more so! No buggered screws or evidence of any tampering or abuse. I would guess this was in a Maharaja's armory. Locks up very tight and is dead on the breach face. Alex Henry rifles were at LEAST the equal of Holland and Purdey in quality. One of the finest Henry examples left! SOLD Antique: Yes |
