Unless otherwise stated, our guns are not test fired as we have no facility for that. We inspect the firearm and it's action to see if everything appears functional but they are sold without warranty. Unless the item is listed as being sold AS-IS, there is a 3 Day Non-Shooting Inspection Period which starts when the item arrives at your dealer. No shooting, no disassembly. Visual inspection only to confirm correct item and that it matches description in major ways. Minor differences in subjective matters like percent of condition, etc, and personal opinions like ergonomics, fit to your hand or shoulder, etc, do not justify returns. Once you take the item home it is yours and no returns will be allowed. Items listed with AS-IS label are not returnable. We will not issue refunds for unknown mechanical problems. George Gibbs Hammer Double Rifle - 500/450 No 1 Express
Description: Here is an absolutely beautiful rifle. It was made by George Gibbs in the 1870s according to an email from George Gibbs Ltd, who is still in business. The rifle is a very early George Gibbs cartridge double rifle and has a bore of approximately .460. A chamber cast shows the chamber to be the excellent 500/450 No 1 Express designed by Westley Richards in the 1870s. The barrels are 30" with excellent rifling, and are marked on top "METFORD'S PATENT 459, GEORGE GIBBS, 29, CORN STREET, BRISTOL.". This indicates they are the 459th barrels made under William Metfords patent of 1865. The action, locks, hammers, safari safeties, etc are all fully functional. The right firing pin sticks forward sometimes but as this action opens safely without having to cock the hammers first this does not present any problems. The action is tight and on face and this rifle will make an excellent shooter. Load up and head out on your next safari. The locks are both engraved GEORGE GIBBS with very nice English scroll. The action, lever, trigger guard, and top and bottom tangs are all nicely engraved. This is truly a beautiful rifle in a very shootable caliber.
