Holland & Holland Royal 7MM Magnum Flanged Cased.
Description: Holland & Holland Royal for the 7mm Magnum Flanged Cartridge. This rifle was used extensively in Africa and was returned to Holland & Holland several times for cleaning, adjustments and general care. The rifle spent most of it's life in Africa with the original owner. The bores and chambers remain in very good to excellent condition and it is said that this was the former owner's main hunting weapon. It was sent to Holland to have the original scope mounts removed and letters as so. The work on this is nearly undetectable with only the slightest bit showing in the cross hatching on the quarter rib. The cartridge is very similar to the 7X57 Mauser/.275 Rigby with a rim for positive extraction. Frank Barnes shows this as a Holland developed round and states that less than 2 dozen rifles were made for the cartridge. The brass is relatively easy to source as are bullets. Data is a 140 grain pointed bullet loaded with 40 grains of 4064 or relative acceptable substitution that will produce a muzzle velocity of 2650 FPS. This round was developed prior to the .275 flanged magnum 1900-10 prior to the .280 Ross coming out and spurring development of the Mag H&H, .276 Dubiel, 7x61 Sharpe & Hart and the .280 Flanged Nitro. The action is coin finish, non-bolstered, long tang over comb and tight on face. The triggers are very nice, front trigger is stippled in a really attractive manner, all screws are indexed and unmarred, wood to metal fit is level and there are no metal to metal gaps of any kind, disk set strikers, top lever is marked "Patent Ejector" bottom metal is marked "Royal Hammerless Ejector" "Holland & Holland" in banners both sides of action all the engraving is sharp with no excessive cleaning or buffing, steel grip cap, fore end furniture is clean and still in perfect wood to metal fit. The ejectors function strong and are well timed. The Barrels are 25" with very high condition blue, chambers and bore, all ribs are solid, Cordite 36-140 Max, 7m/m 2.5", chopper lump, sights are one standing, one folded, small bead and pop up moon front sight. The stocks are in very good condtion, 14" length of pull to a later replacement leather covered pad, oval is initialed, the chequering and finish are very good with light handling marks, no cracks or oil soaking. This rifle falls into the order book for serial numbers 19000-19263 from 1895-1910. The case is a later additon oak and leather that could use fitting and is perfect condition. The rifle weighs 8lbs 14oz and shoulders wonderfully.
