Thomas Bland .450 No.2 NE Rebounding Hammer Double Rifle
Description: THOMAS BLAND .450 No. 2 NE 3 1/2 case Rebounding Hammer Toplever, Ca. 1912. 27" shoelump extractor barrels with rib extension and solid third bite. Birmingham proved 80 Cordite & 480 gr. bullet. 1/4 rib with one standing and three folding platinum line sights. Bushed strikers, splinter fore end with Anson push-button release. Pistol grip stock, long trigger guard tang, 14 7/8 lop with KickEeze pad and 1/4 " spacer. Rifle weighs 10 lb 11oz which is proper weight. The unique features of this double rifle are the condition. 90% original case colors, 90% original blue barrels, checkering at 90% original. The bores are excellent to excellent plus. This rifle balances between the hands perfectly, as a proper double should. Rifle comes with the original brass cornered leather trunk (both straps intact and buckle well but leather handle is missing) with period correct Thomas Bland trade lable citing to 2 King William Street, Strand, London. The case contains an original John Rigby Rangoon oil bottle, 2 new snap caps, original cleaning rod under the barrels, and the original cleaning accoutraments. There is an address label on the leather case with Lord Crichton's name written. However, someone attempted to cross it out in black pen. Bland moved to the 2 King William location in 1901 and then moved, after WWI (1919), to 4-5 King William Street address. This rifle comes with a set of dies and 39 .450 No 2 pieces of brass. This rifle was in the possession of Brevit Lt. Col. Lord Henry William Crichton-Crichton, Viscount. I believe it was purchased by Lord Crichton as there is a silver family crest affixed to the comb of the stock (instead of a silver oval on the toe) that shows a dragon, two "C's interlocking and "1912 From Crom" (Crom was his home town) engraved on the escutchon. Lord Henry was born on September 30, 1872 and died October-31-1914 at age 42. He was killed in WWI and had been awarded DSO, MVO as a member of the Royal Horse Guards. He was born in Crom, and the family was awarded an estate in Erne, Ireland. This rifle has both condition and royal provenance to it's credit. A beautiful double rifle ready for an ele or buff hunt in Africa or Australian buff hunt!.
