Rigby double rifle in .35 Rigby, express, quarter rib, ejectors, scalloped boxlock, AAA English, BL Hands engraving, 450 rounds, over 90%, layaway
Description:
Rigby double rifle in .35 Rigby. Made in California during the early-to-mid 2000s, serial 381617 has 24-inch barrels (.600-inch muzzle diameters, dished crowns, niter blue blade front sight with brass bead, quarter rib with standing and folding leafs marked 50/100/200 and gold sighting lines plus integral ERA mount provisions, ejectors, rust blue finish). Features include a scalloped box lock action with side clips, mechanical safety, long/extended tangs and two triggers. STOCK: Fashioned from an exhibition-grade English blank set with outstanding directional figure blending into sunburst, detailings include a beavertail forend with fine wrap checkering with Mullered borders, scalloped pancake with shadow line, trap door grip cap and a Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad. ENGRAVING: Signed by Barry Lee Hands, the action floor centers on an outstanding Cape buffalo glowering from the reeds and in turn surrounded by intricate scroll to nearly full coverage. The supporting pattern wraps the balance of the action and lever, continues along the upper tang and latch, then reappears siding the chamber areas and along the rib. Gold accents include the script logo, caliber, “SAFE” and famous addorsed Rs. DIMENSIONS: Weight is 10.0 pounds and the length-of-pull is 14.75 inches. CONDITION: The bores are strong and bright. Barrels are full on face and the lever rests well right. Metal finish is well over 90 percent. Wood is over 95 percent with but a few minor impressions and rubs. BACKGROUND: At one time, this rifle was owned by an individual involved with “California” Rigby and was divested by him after the company closed. (It was consigned, along with the included ammunition, to Sportsman's Legacy and sold to the current consignor.) Given that the action serial differs from that showing on the barrel flat and forend latch, some thought it might have originally been a 20 gauge shotgun with a Rigby-built set of rifle barrels. Regardless, the shotgun barrels have never been located. CALIBER NOTES: The .35 Rigby is based on .348 Winchester cases. It differs significantly from the .350 Rigby and should not be confused with same). AMMUNITION: Approximately 450 rounds of Superior custom ammunition (approximately 86 250-grain Speer SP and approximately 364 250-grain Swift A-Frame) loaded in 2007/08 are included. Cases are Winchester with the .348 Win. head stamp. No papers, mounts, case or regulation information is present. The price is firm and layaway is available. $22,500 plus shipping.
